Tyldesley SWPC is 144 years old in August 2020. The club continued delivering swimming and water polo through 2 World Wars but the COVID-19 Virus from China has certainly put stop to that.
Following the statement by the Government and the advice from Swim England last night https://www.swimming.org/swimengland/coronavirus-statement/ the Vice Presidents and myself have been considering this information in great detail overnight and following discussions with the Pelican Centre and our Insurance Company
It is with great sadness that in light of this advice from Swim England that the following decision has been made :-
WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT THE CLUB WILL BE SUSPENDING ALL TRAINING & COMPETITIONS UNTIL THE END OF MAY (or until we receive different advice)
We realise the impact this will have on all our swimmers, water polo players, teachers, coaches and volunteers but we must do everything possible to safeguard our members.
We will also be monitoring/reviewing and updating everyone on a regular basis following further announcements from the Government and Swim England.
As the Pelican Centre will remain open during this time (as a leisure operator they have not been instructed to suspend activities) we would ask our members to support the facility as much as possible during this unprecedented times.
More information will be published over the coming days on
- what activities the Pelican Centre will be offering to support our swimmers and water polo players
- what will happen with your monthly payments
If you wish to use the Pelican Centre
- Please ensure you shower before and after activities
- Please ensure you use a cubicle to get changed
Can I please ask everyone to be vigilant at this time
- If you have a cold, cough or showing any symptoms – self isolate
- If anyone in your family are showing symptoms – self isolate
TO ALL OUR MEMBERS AND YOUR FAMILIES PLEASE – STAY SAFE – BE VIGILANT
NB: Other clubs in the borough are also taking the same steps as us.
